I Translate the Future
Every week, I translate Chinese government documents that reveal how they're implementing AI while we're debating it. Not news. Not propaganda. The actual technical standards and municipal plans.
One discovery: They use 智能 intelligent systems not 人工智能 artificial intelligence. One character difference. Completely different strategy. This linguistic intelligence is worth millions to the right reader.

While we debate AI ethics, China is connecting every computer in their country. Not metaphorically. Literally. Their infrastructure plans show distributed computing at a scale we haven't imagined.
They're building systems to control millions of GPUs like one giant supercomputer. The technical standards are public. The implementation timelines are aggressive. The vocabulary reveals the strategy.
19 cities are testing infrastructure that makes our cloud computing look primitive. I have the documents. Budget allocations. Technical specifications. Implementation deadlines.

My Journey Here
For two years, I documented how American democracy fails at using AI. Digital feudalism. Missing mathematics. Campaigns using algorithms to avoid voters rather than serve them.
Then someone asked: "Who does it better?"
I couldn't answer. So I went looking.
Late one night, I found Chinese government AI implementation guidelines. Not surveillance systems or social credit scores. Construction standards. Municipal AI deployment. Systematic integration plans.
This has to be propaganda, I thought.
But then I looked at the page numbers. The technical specifications. You don't fake that level of boring detail.
The Linguistic Revelations
Where we say "integrate," they say 融合 fusion. Integration keeps things separate but connected. Fusion creates something entirely new.
Where we say "human-machine interaction," they say 人机协同 human-machine collaboration. Interaction is transactional. Collaboration is partnership.
Where we say "smart city," they say 智慧城市 wisdom city. Smart implies clever technology. Wisdom implies judgment and experience.
Every document revealed strategic thinking through vocabulary. A paid subscriber just messaged me: "The 智能 vs 人工智能 distinction alone was worth the annual subscription." They're right. These aren't translation nuances. They're strategic signals.
